Hey HN, I've been building Sectr, a backend-as-a-service for making it easy(ier) to develop and deploy AI agents. Deploying agents requires non-trivial systems design work. Consider a support agent: how do you stream messages to your frontend, how/where do you persist messages for frontend fetching later (or for auditing), and when the agent wants to issue a refund, do you spin-down the compute infra while it's waiting on human approval? Sectr aims to be the serverless abstraction and platform to provide these systems for you. No sign-up needed to try using the dev server: curl -fsSL https://sectr.dev/install.sh | sh # Install CLI sectr init my-agent && cd my-agent # Starter code sectr dev # Dev server, with UI to test chatting Sectr provides: - Streaming of every token, tool call and event, and persistence so they can be loaded fresh later. - Scaling up, and down to zero when the agent needs to wait, and resumption right to the suspended agent's state. - Human approved tools automatically use Sectr's suspension and resumption capabilities, no code needed from you. - AG-UI endpoint for any deployed agent so you can trivially hook up your frontend - Local dev server experience, so you can rapidly debug and iterate on your agent's behavior At the core, you can deploy any container image to Sectr as long as it implements a certain shaped HTTP endpoint. In practice, currently Sectr provides adapters to let you deploy your existing OpenAI Agents SDK, LangGraph, or Pydantic AI agents, with only 2 new lines of code: app = AgentApp(name="support") app.add_route("/chat", openai_agents(agent)) Certainly the hardest part of building Sectr was getting the resumption logic to be correct and invisible, across the Program State x Model Provider x Agent Framework matrix. For example, an earlier bug was when a model replied with text plus a tool call, Sectr would resume that as two separate messages, instead of one message with a text and tool part. This works, but breaks prompt caching (and might subtly change model behavior). Sectr is free during the beta (and can be tried locally without sign-up); I mainly want feedback, especially on dev & deployment experiences, any bugs, and what features would excite you. Thinker cuts your coding agents’ token spend by ~20%. Thinker is an open-source proxy that sits between your agents and the model. It strips context your agent no longer needs, caches knowledge so future agents don’t have to rediscover it, and keeps your instruction files lean and current. Across my first dozen users, it’s averaged 20% fewer tokens per completed task, with no drop in success rate. For teams, it also shows where token spend is going, by team, repo, and agent.
Hello, my name is Berend Graham. My cofounder Shiv Oberai and I have been working on Limma for a year now with the goal of building a proactive solution to the reliability issues that plague practical AI and agentic use in companies with RAG. Limma is a single MCP that exists for the sole purpose of ensuring that the right information is retrieved with every query and no information is skipped and or missed. This means total precision and recall. We've found that this approach leads to the lowest rate of hallucination vs. solely targeting agent action verification which has made tremendous strides in capability. We do this by building a map and structuring all data-points within unstructured data as well as federating structured data for addressability so that agents don't need to search through chunks directly and instead only get the right information . We wanted this to be extremely easy to use so that anyone can set it up and try it within minutes so that the precision issues (especially with large quantities of data) that LLMs struggle with can finally be remedied. We use self-hosted models (primarily Qwen models as of current) so that the system can be deployed on one's own server if needed, and also to optimize for speed. We have a free monthly version on our website if anyone would like to try it out and provide feedback!

Hey HN, I recently published a project for running self hosted, highly available ingress for your infrastructure: authoritative DNS for your own domain, load balancers and network mesh, to expose your web apps. It started over a year ago as side project to handle several websites for clients and other side projects, and finished as the replacement cert-manager, external-dns and ingress that works without k8s, and is independent from single cloud/vps provider. It ended up as the HA platform, able to manage dozens of load balancers with TLS termination (and Let's Encrypt integration), DNS servers and full redundant mesh. The design goal from the beginning was to prepare a tool with minimized risk of single point of failure and independent from single hosting. It is running all my home lab, nextcloud, gitlab and production websites for clients for the few last months. Quick links for those who want to test: https://dinemic.com - project page https://console.dinemic.com - hosted control plane, if you want to test it with your own vps and domain, without setting up whole stack https://gitlab.cloudover.io/dinemic/docs - project documentation In high availability section of documentation you will also find concepts and design of its components and sample analysis of downtime when things go wrong with your infra. It is AGPL, so you can host also at your own. Self hosted version covers all functionality, with API and command line tools.

Hey folks! I made it easier for builders to use the lebanese legislation through: a public DB, API, and MCP. The Lebanese University has an archive of all laws dating back to 1904 (legallaw.ul.edu.lb). People and AI can barely find it and navigate it. It also had outdated articles. Now, more people are using it. Builders for their startups, lawyers for their work, and students for their bar prep. I'm still trying to get it trusted by authorities. The database includes the edges between every law, article, ruling and Gazette issue. You can easily identify how they influence one another. Articles are versioned, so you can see how it was affected by other laws from the date it was published. 100k unofficial english translations were added using LLMs. They aren't accurate, but they help with search and SEO/AEO/GEO. We're working on producing legally accurate translations. 47k rulings were PDFs, some handwritten. We converted all of them to text using OCR, flagging handwritten files. We're working on an HTR model specifically for those to increase the confidence. Today, other datasets in Lebanon charge for this data. I'm doing it as a public service. I want change in my country. And, lately, I think it's through helping builders. Yet, what I'm doing is legally wrong, but hopefully morally acceptable.
FastHook has grown from webhook infrastructure into app workflow automation. Describe a process in AI Builder, review the generated draft, and connect the fields before activation. Cryo is a programming language that models long-running tasks like workflows or AI agents. Programs freeze to disk when idle and can be thawed when new data arrives. As part of our announcement of Endothermic Labs, we've put together a small of Cryo that highlights its features and walks through the language and its plugin system. We originally built it as a way to deploy healthcare agents at scale, but have rebuilt it from the ground up to be a standalone toolchain for long-running tasks. It acts as something like a cross between Durable Objects and Temporal workflows, where the script itself is the durable unit with no replay needed. Cryo is statically and structurally typed, with a concurrency model similar to Go. It's still under active development, so we're holding off on open sourcing it until we're confident that the language is stable, ideally in the next 3-4 weeks.
Hi HN, I'm Alexander. Yes, this is another agent harness. Here is why I built one anyway. I was engineer #2 at Browser Use, where I built our agent harness and the evals behind it, including BU Bench, which became a default benchmark for browser agents. I left in September to build Mainplane. The problem: local agents die with your laptop, and cloud agents can't reach your work. Many cloud platforms ask you to "select a repository", but my work is not that simple. I work across a desktop, a Mac mini and a laptop, and much of it is not in git. So I loaded Ubuntu on my old 2012 desktop and made it my Mainplane server. It has run for four weeks at a load average of 0.02, because the agents' tools run on other machines. How it works: it is a control plane architecture. The server runs the harness. It holds your API keys and every session, makes the LLM calls, and routes each tool call to a worker. The workers are your other machines, connected over a built-in private WireGuard network. A bash command runs in the worker's terminal, not on the server. Shared drives let projects move across machines. The agent works on your machines just like you would, but its state lives on the server, and your keys never leave it. Some design choices: - Every session is one append-only file. This is the agent state, and it is easily readable. If something breaks, you can resume it from the file. Observability comes for free: agent traces are just these state files. - Small by design. The system prompt is 3k tokens, and there are just two kinds of tools: shell and file (read, write, edit). At Browser Use, I learned the bitter lesson and found frontier models did better when I deleted all our helper functions. So I made the same bet here: bash is all you need. - No compaction. When a session fills up, /continue starts a new one that greps the previous state file, retrieving the context it needs, instead of reading a lossy summary. A /compact on a 400k-token session takes a while to write its summary. A /continue into a brand new session starts at once. - No permission prompts. A hyperintelligent misaligned agent WILL find a way around a permission system. The better strategy is giving the agent full unbounded access to a local computer, and only putting what you trust the agent with on that computer. - Why Go. WireGuard is written in Go, so the network compiles right into a 20 MB binary. Go is made for production servers, LLMs write it well, and the simplicity of Go matches how I like to build. Mainplane works with a Claude or ChatGPT subscription on the regular usage limits, or any API key. I would love your feedback, especially brutal and honest feedback and tasks that the harness cannot do. I'll be here all day to answer questions.

Hey HN! Kupe started as me building my dream Kubernetes platform. It's got abit out of hand and turned into multi-tenant SaaS poc. It's Kubernetes with GitOps, networking, logs, metrics and Grafana all wired up. I've been building out all of the core functionality and adding everything I would want in a mature k8s platform. The main idea is to have everything needed to turn a cluster into a platform ready right from cluster creation. It's suppose to be simple to get up and running but flexible enough to allow users to implement thier preferred workflows. It's built on the shoulders of some really awesome open source giants. It's been fun getting all the these pieces working together, new clusters auto register with Argo with a healthy amount of monitoring ready to go. It's in alpha and completely free to use. There are some rough edges, but hopefully no dragons, if you have any issues at all, please shout and i'll do my very best to fix asap! It's exciting to finally share it and see what people think. Would love feedback, especially on the opinions baked in. Hopefully they're useful defaults, but interested to hear where they get in your way or if anything feels missing. https://kupe.cloud/signup Thanks for taking a look! Billy

iClouds puts all of that in a single account. Push a Dockerfile or a docker-compose project — from GitHub, GitLab or a ZIP — and iClouds builds the image on the target node, deploys it across nodes with load balancing, and gives it a domain with a TLS certificate already configured. No buildpacks, no server to patch, no YAML to maintain.
Hey HN, I'm Christian and this is a new OSS project I've been noodling on for the last couple of weeks. Hob is a free, MIT-licensed desktop app for Mac, Windows and Linux that works on your files the way the Claude and ChatGPT desktop apps do, except the model runs on your own computer. It uses open-weight models (currently Gemma 4 and gpt-oss). All your chats and files never leave your system. The only things that go online are web search (can be turned off in settings) and any MCP connectors you add yourself. Main features: - Automatically finds the best open-weight model for your hardware on first install (Mac/Linux/Windows) - Writes sandboxed Python code for ad hoc tools (data processing, document conversion, graphs etc.) - Built-in web search (powered by SearXNG) - MCP support - Image recognition - CRUD to your local filesystem - Works fully offline with no internet Before building this I tried every local AI app I could find, but it seemed each one had different problems. The main thing I noticed is that none of them could do what the ChatGPT and Claude apps do with your files, e.g. read and change files in a folder, look at images, run code in a sandbox, draw a chart. The most advanced thing any of them did was paste a plain text file into a small context window, which basically failed as soon as you had a file larger than a few KB. I couldn't find anything that could easily parse images and bigger PDFs. The OSS solutions that were more advanced all seemed to default to hosted models (either OSS or closed), which defeats the entire point of the privacy that on-device OSS offers. They also seemed to push towards an account/open-core style business. I build it using Electron bridged with llama.cpp in its own process. On initial load, the system will try and figure out if you have a compatible graphics card and if not default to CPU-only (I ran into a lot of issues of graphics card beeing seemingly compatible but then crashing on first query, there's a whole saga to this lol). Code execution happens in a sandbox that can only write to the chat's folder and has no network unless asked (sandbox-exec on macOS, Landlock on Linux and a low-integrity process on Windows). Images go to a small Qwen3-VL model. Dictation is a local Whisper model. The hardest part was definitely to get the smaller models to use tools reliably. Ran into a ton of issues of 4B models happily saying "here's your chart" without ever calling the chart tool or get stuck in an infinite call loop. I spent a fair amount of the work building guards vs tweaking prompts (that didn't really work for small models). I understand the pushback that local models are weaker than frontier cloud models. This is true, but for most tasks for most normal people, I'd argue you rarely need the newest frontier model. From my own evals, systems with 16+ GB of RAM do really well, and if you have a GPU or more RAM, you get very close to what you'll get out of the box with a frontier hosted model. Excited to hear what you think and see how it runs on other systems!

Hi HN, I'm Richard, founder of Native. I'm working on open-source context ownership, to stop AI centralisation: https://github.com/withnative/native My first focus has been making Markdown vaults powerful enough so that teams can self-host all of their context (messaging, docs and projects), without it being externally fragmented or rate-limited. I'm sharing some early results: Markdown vaults can be 40× more efficient with SQLite! https://www.withnative.ai/research-and-posts/markdown-contex... Here's some of the main ideas: - SQLite or Markdown folders, you pick. You can project the same authoritative event log into either form; more projection formats will follow (e.g. maybe neo4j; we do use a graph structure). - Empirically: SQLite is better for agents! On a 120 trial evaluation for 11,000 records, agents use 40× fewer tokens with SQLite vs Markdown, per correct answer. - Everything is a file or SQLite row. Messages, documents and projects: all can be modelled in your vault. You get local-first collaboration with teammates, synced to a cloud of your choice. - You can render your vault with arbitrary UI. Your WhatsApp-like UI speaks to your teammate's Slack-like UI; both are just views over the same database. A few things I've learned building this: - Agents do pretty well even without SQL if you give them strongly typed Markdown frontmatter. This was one arm of the trial I ran. I didn't have any clear expectations, but it was cool to watch: agents ended up writing Python scripts to do SQL-like queries. - Cumulatively, cached input tokens can get expensive. I feel silly in hindsight here. I'd gotten used to letting my sessions run long, "It's all cached so it's very cheap". But when I looked at my results here, over 2/3 of the token bill on long sessions was cached input... - "Markdown vaults don't scale as well as databases" isn't as self-evident as I think. This is why I decided to benchmark it... I've had some very blank stares when I try to explain how Markdown files might break at true agent-scale volume. Unfortunately, the dataset is private, because it's two months of my own work. I am considering open-sourcing it even so, but there is definitely some embarrassing stuff in there. TBD... I know that independent result verification matters! The core engine that I evaluated is open-source, with more to be released soon: https://github.com/withnative/native If you're interested in trying connected context on an open engine, you can get updates from our website or email me directly: richard@withnative.ai https://www.withnative.ai/

Hi HN, I'm Dat. I started building TablePro last December because I want a native, open-source database client for Mac. I already used TablePlus there before with free but have too much limit, so I built my own. TablePro is written in Swift and currently supports more than 30 databases. It’s lightweight and very fast. The app core is free, other extra features like iCloud Sync, ... are paid to help fund development. TablePro also has an available iOS/iPad version on App Store, and a Linux version built with GTK4/Rust in development. Would love to hear what you think.

Recently, I have been playing around with GCS Rapid, a new API in GCS that lets you append to an existing object. It's pretty fast, and it's cool that you can do a log-structured merge tree on top to get a durable database without needing to run a server. Disclaimer: I am a Google employee, but this is not an official Google product. Do not use this code in production; it has 0 production airmiles and was written with AI.
This is my own very opinionated take on personal accounting / budgeting for freelancers and small business owners operating in multiple currencies. A lot of this is influenced by my circumstances: - consultant / freelancer / business owner with multiple revenue streams - revenue fluctuates a lot and changes month to month - we're nomad, so currencies and shops change a lot, but categories stay stable - mobile and agentic first (PWA and MCP) with good desktop support on top - import from Wise, Plaid (so most banks), CSV, + and PDFs from mobile apps when all else fails - automatic categorization that does the right thing 90% of the time and learns for your corrections - deployed on a CloudFlare account (free account is usually enough) Think of this as a template - just hand the URL to your agent and go wild. This is built to be infinitely malleable and extendable because accounting setups and needs differ so much between people. Extracted from my own heavily used setup after removing all the private and unique bits. May we all take control of our funds, each in our unique way.

I am in the UK, and our government are kind of dogshit in terms of their approach to personal freedom and potentially could make moves to block VPNs. I believe that everyone should have not only unfiltered access to the internet, but the agency to control this and not be dependent on some sort of provider. This is a small project to make this available and easy to do, I will expand it into making it easier to run the server infrastructure shortly. Inspirations: Outline (great idea, not super secure or efficient), Singbox (honestly this is totally fine but could be improved). What I'd like: If people are in countries that actively try to block VPNs, it would be good to see if this works there, it is designed to but, not being there, I can't verify this. This is an example host setup: https://github.com/radiosilence/jaritanet/tree/main/packages... but obviously that's quite technical and runs on k3s and I want to make it more easy for people to set it up themselves.

Blue noise is the task of sampling a collection of points optimally placed to cover space randomly yet uniformly. -randomly: no periodic pattern or undesired ordered structure, to prevent aliasing effects. -uniformly: no empty regions, clusters... that would unavoidably appear by just using a raw random generator because of natural fluctuations. In spectral language, one can take the Fourier transform of the point cloud. For a blue noise, it's amplitude should be: - 0 or small at low frequencies. This ensures long-range order. - 1 or not too big at high frequencies (short-range disorder). Hence blue noise: Imagine sending light on the point cloud; in some abstract sense, only the blue (high frequency) will pass through. Many popular algorithms can sample blue noise: Poisson disks, void and clusters, Lloyd relaxation... but the bluest blue noise (those that show up as a hard 0-1 spectral step) comes from the most basic, brute-force algorithm you can imagine. Take points from a purely random generator, compare the Fourier transform with the 0-1 target, launch gradient descent... and wait. Wait because it has O(N^2) complexity. Well, it turns out in 2D / 3D, advanced fast Fourier techniques can bring it down to N log N, see https://github.com/martiniani-lab/FReSCo (not me), but this is limited to 2D / 3D point clouds. So, all this just to say that I launched a high-quality but slow blue noise optimiser on the GPU, collected the samples in a reusable database and hope it could interest people from graphics, statistical physics, maybe also quasi-Monte Carlo integration (but this one is just a maybe, simple Sobol sequences are better than blue noise on many tasks) or just curious hackers. Sampled clouds, all open access: 2D to 32D 1k to 130k points (and up to 30 millions in 2D / 3D thanks to the mentioned fast Fourier speed-up).

I developed a custom GPU kernel in Triton to accelerate training with a sparse feed-forward network (FFN). With K=256, activating 256 of 4,096 FFN neurons per token (6.25%), the sparse model achieved 36% higher training throughput than its dense counterpart. The kernel has so far been tested on a single NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 GPU and requires GPU hardware with BF16 support. Whether a model trained with a sparse FFN and densified afterwards can match the quality of a model trained densely remains an open question. These early results have motivated me to continue training a larger model using this approach. More about EUGEN and my work: https://jakubcwirlej.com/ai-dev/

Getting a real database today means sign-ups, consoles, picking a cloud region, and ongoing management. That’s too much friction in two cases: AI agents and scripts need a real Postgres for a few minutes: to run tests, try a schema, or answer a question over some data. They have no account and no human to click through setup. Developers, side projects and personal AI assistants need a small, always-on database for free, without running servers or getting a surprise bill.

As a founder looking for industry events to network/sell at, Claude/ChatGPT search for conferences is extremely hit or miss. IME the agent never goes deep enough and frequently includes out of date events, misleading prices (claiming an event is free, but it's only free for buyers and $2795 for everyone else), or only the most major events. Also never sure if I'm missing something cheaper or closer or a better fit. Spent a whole week's worth of tokens on industry event research validating event dates, finding prices, filtering junk events, de-duping, and generally cleaning up the data. May it be useful to other founders trying to sell.

Hi HN, I'm Faithful. I built dánwò, an open-source (Apache-2.0) end-to-end testing framework for web and mobile apps, written in TypeScript. The problem: a UI test can click "Pay", see "Payment successful" and pass, while the card was charged twice, the webhook was handled twice, or the receipt email never went out. With coding agents writing more of our code, that gap between "the screen looks right" and "the right things happened" is where I kept finding bugs. How it works: - Tests drive the app like a user, with locators or plain-English agent steps. An agent step calls a model once; danwo records the actions and replays them on later runs with no model calls, so CI doesn't need an API key. - Your app runs behind an egress proxy. Calls to Stripe, Clerk, Resend, Slack, Google and about 20 other providers are answered by local emulators at the real hostnames, so there are no sandbox keys and no code changes. For Node apps a preload routes the calls; Bun honours HTTPS_PROXY. - An invariant is a check that runs after the test and compares two sides: what the provider says happened (charges, emails, messages) and what your app stored. For example, credits granted must equal paid checkouts times 500. - `danwo matrix` replays a test once per fault it could meet: a 500 or 429 from a provider, a declined card, a duplicate, late, forged or replayed webhook, a double-submit, a database commit whose reply is lost, Postgres unreachable for a few seconds. The invariant judges every run, so you see exactly which failure your app mishandles. - Every run leaves a flight record: video, each step, every provider call, webhook delivery and database statement, with secrets redacted. It runs in Chromium, Firefox and WebKit, and on the Android emulator and iOS Simulator. It ships an MCP server and a skill, so coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex) can write and run tests and fix what fails. Limitations, honestly: the emulators are only as good as their fidelity to the real APIs. Each one has a suite that runs against the real provider to catch drift, but they won't cover every edge of Stripe's API. Backend routing is built for Node and Bun today. Mobile tests need macOS or Linux. It's early (v0.1.2). The name is Yorùbá: "dán an wò" means "try it and see". Quickstart: npx @danwo/cli init (docs: https://danwo.dev/docs/quickstart ) I'd love feedback, especially on faults you've been bitten by that aren't in the matrix yet.

I'm building Multipeer, a desktop app for running agents, tools and working wth teammates on one shared canvas. I often have several agent sessions open at once, but they're all scattered across terminals. It was also hard for my co-founder to see what my agents are doing or jump in to work together. So We built the solution to our own problem. And now we're releasing it to the world. It's a macOS app for now (soon on Windows and Linux). You can invite your teammates over a local network or over the internet. They can follow your view and, if you allow them, they can also take control of your terminal and claude code/codex sessions. The app is still early, and I'm also releasing the iPhone/Android app soon to remotely control everything on your canvas. I'd would like to get feedback from the HN community! If there's any features you'd like to see, please contact me via: shyam@multipeer.sh, we build really fast. I'd love to talk to everyone of you and work on your feedback! Thanks!

Hi HN, I'm Simon. I built Basteon because I wanted one place to see all my money (bank accounts, brokers, cash, gold, real estate, crypto) without giving a company a copy of my transactions/net-worth. video walkthrough, about 3 minutes: https://x.com/novospes/status/2110710334818222539 How it works: Your data lives in an encrypted sqlite database on your phone. There is no account with a stored copy of your transactions on our side. We have a dumb (no storing/logging) sync-server that connects to Enable Banking, but the actual authorization tokens to get the bank data lives on your device. This is the UX-friendly way. But for people who want a trust-less setup. The server itself will be open-sourced We're planning to relaunch Q4 2026.

Plango is a Mac native security suite for anyone running AI coding tools. It works by running a custom local security model that evaluates threats against the lethal trifecta (data access, communication, exposure). Some cool features: - Restrict Agent access by type of data (ssh keys, env files) or finder tags (finally a good reason to use the color tags in finder). - On device security model, but can switch to another local agent or bring your own key. - Review your Mac's privacy and access, apps, startup & extensions. - Automatically move env secrets into keychain. - Network blocks/allow lists, see what apps and agents are accessing. Stop them from data exfil. - Check skills and plugins for bad behavior. - Create custom rules for all of these things. - Log every action, request, block etc in an easy dashboard. - Vuln scan of all projects on your Mac. About us: I'm Fred, long term hacker first time shower. My co-founder Rich and I care about privacy, security and believe that AI software development is the future. We have two decades of combined experience in cyber, NLP and AI and are working on this tool full time. Given how fast cyber is evolving we're pushing changes to this on a daily basis. Please download and trial for free! We're here to answer any questions about the app or cyber/AI.
Secure your Mac while building with AI. Plango monitors AI coding agents, protects sensitive files and secrets, blocks suspicious network activity, scans projects for vulnerabilities, and gives you control over what your agents can access. Powered by an on-device AI security model. Private by default.

Hello everyone! About four years ago, a password manager I've used and depended on has been acquired and soon after, it was shut down. If anyone remembers MYKI, it was a password manager that stood out at the time. It didn't require an email address and a password for registration and it synchronized credentials peer-to-peer. It was quite handy so a couple of my friends and I got hooked, and were using it up until the last day it was online. The thing was, I didn't want to change password managers to other options available at the time, none felt right - I wanted to stay.. So I did what any sensible engineer would do 4 years ago and I wrote my own. I moved all my credentials there as soon as I had a first version ready. It was ugly (God knows I had UI/UX skills to learn), but it worked. Soon after, the same friends that were using MYKI switched over to using Cryptex Vault. I get why, we had the same P2P synchronization across devices, it was simple and didn't try to be the most-feature complete application out there - it did the job. That was an exciting moment. So exciting, in fact, that I've posted to HN to tell people about it. At the time, I had a weird thing for decentralization so I called it a "Fully Decentralized Password Manager". Three years go by, I keep maintaining the project, with no real intention of proper marketing or polishing. At one point I checked the usage and figured out that a handful of people (and their families) were still using Cryptex Vault as their password manager. Three months ago, I left my comfy job as lead software engineer at a local company to dedicate time to a company I called Cryptex Industries. Polished Cryptex Vault, cleaned it up, made it open source, started providing Docker images for self-hosting and included some of the features I've only used internally (ssh-agents). That way Cryptex Industries need not remain operational for users to have a path to continued use! To make the project commercially viable, I started offering managed services through the Online Services plan. By using Online Services you remove the operational burden of self-hosting and infrastructure maintenance from yourself while still getting the same benefits: Managed backup storage, synchronization between devices, sharing, ssh-agents, device management. It is convenience, not access to core features. The core application is free and you can use it with no subscriptions of any kind, whatsoever. It's P2P synchronized, with industry-standard crypto choices including post-quantum primitives for synchronization - https://www.cryptex-vault.com/docs/cryptography It has importers for popular password managers, along with autofill for chromium browsers (firefox is a todo, yell and I'll get on it). As for the platforms, there is a web app, an android application and an ssh-agent for linux (will put it up on AUR when they open up registrations again). Feel free to try it out (there is a 14-day trial for managed services!), self-host it or break it. I would appreciate your thoughts on this and I wish you a nice friday!
time says a command took 3.8 seconds... whytime tells you where those seconds went: $ sudo whytime -- sh -c 'sleep 0.5; dd … oflag=dsync; curl -s -o /dev/null https://speed.cloudflare.com/…' wall 3.83s 47% blocked on network: speed.cloudflare.com:443 (1 connection) 34% fsync on ~/.cache 13% timer sleep (sleep) 4% on-CPU (curl) 2% other The lines always add up to 100%. When the command waits on a child or another thread, whytime follows whoever woke it up, so a shell waiting on curl is charged to the network wait curl was stuck on. The top line is what you'd have to make faster. It can also draw a flamegraph. Uses eBPF (Linux 5.18+)

For the past 12 years as a data engineer, I've been building pipelines across many different business categories and sizes. Most pipelines that I’ve encountered were relatively simple jobs and required more orchestration and infrastructure than the work seems to justify. I wanted to make it easier for business users or analysts to take on the less complicated requests and technical engineers be able to focus on more complex pipelines. So in the past year I've been building a local desktop application (Mac/PC/Linux) to make it easy enough for analysts to build pipelines and answer analytical questions they have about their data, no matter their level of technical expertise. It’s called Ternlux, and it streamlines the process of transforming and getting your data where it needs to go. There are two key features: - Ask questions: AI helps to write the query for your connection and answer your question - Build reusable workflows: The AI generates SQL, Python, and workflow logic that executes based on your defined rules and triggers One of the key advantages of the application is you can perform cross-database joins between databases, local files, vector databases, and cloud storage. You describe the workflow you want and the app writes the code and builds the environment to execute it in (for local joins, it uses either JS, Python, or DuckDB to execute the code). For example, if I want to build a workflow that joins a Postgres table with a CSV file and write the results to Snowflake, I just describe the tables I want to use, the keys to join on, and where the join should run. The app takes care of the rest. I also wanted the app to be as secure as possible. It always asks for approval before performing any database or local file manipulation. It never sends anything to Ternlux servers if you haven’t opted into telemetry. It’s important to note that the app will send query results to your selected AI provider to analyze and answer your questions. It will also send the schema and a small sample size of your data to build workflows properly. It is a bring your own key application. It supports Gemini, Claude, OpenAI, and any models that are OpenAI compatible (Ollama, LM Studio, Openrouter…). All of your credentials stay encrypted locally. And the app is completely free including all features (besides the AI models you use with your own key obviously). I’ve built a quick showcasing the applications https://www.ternlux.com/online-demo/ 3-min overview: https://youtu.be/tA7N7wiLliA The list of connectors that exist: Postgres, MySQL, SQL Server, BigQuery, Snowflake, MongoDB, Pinecone, LanceDB, S3, GCS, Azure Blob, Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, and Google Sheets. I would love your honest feedback on this. How can this product be improved? Would you currently use it as a tool to replace your current tool or in conjunction with your other tools? What feature do you find most useful and I should focus on from the list?

ReplyMan finds the posts worth answering on X, Reddit, Hacker News, Bluesky, and LinkedIn and drafts replies in your voice. You approve every one. It never posts on its own, so your accounts stay safe. Cheap filters read the networks first, and the AI only sees posts from people asking for what you sell, which keeps drafts cheap. Plans start at $9 a month, not the $99+ listening tools charge.

A Claude Code mod that holds runaway agent spend before it happens: it reads your plan's live 5-hour and weekly usage, then asks before subagent fan-out, heavy-context prompts and retry loops - and refuses when nobody can answer. Local and privacy-minimal (no network, no processes, never stores prompt text), fails open, and /agent-guard report shows what it did. MIT, one plugin install command.

Kavela’s closed beta is out. AI agent automations that do not fail silently. There are now 216 unique users in our closed-beta tests! It is my belief that Kavela will be a winner in the vertical of scaling the consumption of artificial intelligence. Most of our workflows today are manual, in Claude/Codex CLIs. Every workflow that works deserves a harness that can consume the intricacies, rulebooks and guidance it requires to succeed reliably, every single time. Kavela is that: a platform to scale prompts into repeatable workflows, with observability, task management and connectors all in one. Agents on Kavela are long-running and optimised for dynamic use. They maintain persistent file context, so Git repos run. Each agent run spins up an isolated computer to run tasks, so no two agents compete for the same resources, while still sharing and syncing files dynamically. Claude/Codex subs are one click away from being used on the platform. Kavela MCP allows you to promote sessions in your local workspace into repeatable cloud automations with a single ask. As mentioned, the closed beta is now live, and I am looking for testers! If creating reliable agent-first automations has been a pain for you, or you are looking to scale your use of tokens by bringing your workflows into the cloud, I want to work with you. This is my blog drawn as a network, with a light coat of paint to make it look like a video game map. Each city is a post, bigger cities have more incoming links, and roads are connections between posts. It updates semi-automatically every time I publish. (I used an LLM to write the code and drew about 90% of the art myself in Inkscape.) For a long time I've been unsatisfied with the linear feeds and tag soups that most blogs use, so I decided to experiment with a non-linear view. I built some CLI tools that combine embedding similarity, LLM suggestions and human review to find the links between posts and quantify their strength. Now, every time I write a new piece, it takes me about 5 minutes to generate its links to/from older posts and grow the map accordingly. The map is meant to look playful more than precise. For me, the key feature is how it enables making your own "journey" through the blog. The tricky part was finding a layout where closely related posts end up near each other AND the landscape doesn't change dramatically with every new post. I'm not a graph expert, but t-SNE on shortest-path distances over the link graph turned out to work well in my tests. Each update starts from the previous positions with early exaggeration off, and a Procrustes alignment keeps the map from rotating or drifting. I hope it helps people get lost in there and find things they want to read. I'd like to see something like this on other blogs, so I'm sharing it here. I wonder if anyone else has tried similar ways to un-linearize their blogs.

Project URL Category JS Project Title A zero dependency Node script that flags install hooks and risky code in a before your first npm install Project Run it on a you did not write, like a take-home test from a recruiter, before npm install. It lists preinstall, install, postinstall and prepare hooks and flags shell execution, runtime base64 decoding, curl pipes and credential paths. Highlights One file, no dependencies, no network access, read only: it never runs the code it checks. Built for a real attack: fake recruiter take-home repos that hide the payload in an install hook. Clear exit codes (1 flagged, 0 clean, 2 unreadable) and a self test, easy to drop into CI. Honest about limits: a clean result is not proof of safety, and the README says what it cannot catch. MIT licensed. Good first issues are open (JSON output, TypeScript files, git URL dependencies). Example Code markdown curl -O node audit.js ./take-home-task ! package.json: postinstall hook runs: node scripts/setup.js ! scripts/setup.js: runs shell commands ! scripts/setup.js: decodes base64 at runtime ! scripts/setup.js: pipes a download into a shell 4 finding(s). Hi, I'm Derek. I've been doing data integrations / ETL work since 2014, first for K-12, now for commercial companies think ADP/BambooHR to AzureAD, etc. I've written so many deployment systems for integrations, each slightly different. Instead, we took the best parts of all the systems we've built and put them into one tool. PDT takes your job and deploys it to AWS, Azure, GCP, or even Task Scheduler. It's a convention-over-configuration deployment tool specifically made for Scheduled Jobs. Things like data integrations, scans, reports, etc. With AI, writing scripts is easier than ever. Deploying them into production isn't as easy. Because the AI needs to know what you want, this can be tricky as there are so many choices to make! Do I use Azure Functions, Duarble Functions, Container Instances, Azure Batch, AKS CronJob, Azure Automation Runbooks, Logic Apps? ahhh, I just want this to run in production. To give it a shot, install uv, then: uv tool install pdt-cli uv tool update-shell pdt init jobs cd jobs pdt run hello-world # runs locally pdt deploy hello-world # runs on cloud pdt new hello --from powershell-hello-world # give powershell a shot PDT gives you a standard set of primitives to use for scheduling, secrets, storage, logs, and alerts. This means you already know how to track state, where to drop the file you wanted to drop, how to know when the job fails, and how to answer all the other orchestration-related questions.

This package is designed to solve two problems: 1. Frontier models like Fable 5.1, Opus 5.5, Astra 6.0 and Sol 6.1 all make errors and bugs that can be found by another model (even a much smaller model like Luna). 2. In what is supposed to be a long development run, for example against a plan, models will decide to stop before they are finished, when there is obviously more work to do, or to ask a question they already should know the answer to. ReviewerAgent blocks git commits and sends them to another agent that reviews the staged files and either allows the commit or returns a list of issues to fix. StopContinue evaluates every agent stop and determines if it still has work to do or if it is asking a question that it has the answer to already. In either of those cases, it prompts the agent to keep working and specifies next steps or answers to questions, based on the current plan document and chat history. The system works for and is tested on Claude Code and Codex as the developer harness, and either of those or any other model, through Pi, as the reviewer. I've developed it over the last 4 months or so and used it daily over that period. Take a look if it sounds useful. It's been tested on MacOS and Linux (Ubuntu), and has agent assisted install, update, and removal scripts, for convenience. Stats: Over four months of daily use of the system while developing it (from late June til today), reviewerAgent (usually a GPT Luna model) gated 3,877 commits, running about 7,600 reviews in total, so about half of those commits were rejected at least once. The coding agent (Fable or Opus) almost never disagreed with the reviewer's judgements: over the last month, for example, it pushed back on just 3 of 693 rejections. Each rejection listed an average of two required fixes and most rejected commits were accepted after a second round (90% within five attempts). Rejection rates increased with commit size: only 23% of code commits under 50 lines were sent back, but 72% of those over 1,000 lines were initially rejected. Here's an example of a bug that it caught last month for me. More examples in the README: The Fable 5.1 developer agent wrote a wrapper script that runs a set of R validation checks against a freshly loaded database and records whether each one passed. (One of two required fixes shown.) REQUIRED FIXES (blocking) 2. docs/database-phase-loader/local-load/run_r_checks.sh:4-6 pipes each R check through tail without pipefail or explicit status handling, so a failed Rscript can still produce a zero exit status and be recorded as successful. Preserve and propagate each check's exit status. In a shell pipeline the exit status is that of the last command, so `Rscript check.R | tail` reports `tail`'s success even when the check fails. The script prints the tail of the failing check's output, exits 0, and records a pass. A broken load would have been certified as validated.

Hi HN, I’m Anil. I wanted to test the waters for a cloud computing site I created. It connects developers with access to the global compute using a unified API. It’s like a compute Marketplace. You state what you need (region, price point, performance target) and deploy the same way, no matter which provider is underneath. I also benchmark every server and publish the results alongside per-second pricing. Stack: The nodes that get created are basically Cloud Hypervisor VMMs on Ubuntu. I used Linux networking (VXLAN/NAT) to do all of the VPC and IP configs. Disclaimer: This is early and the provider pool is small — mainly in Fremont, California (HE.net), and no other formal provider partnerships yet; I buy capacity the same way anyone would. That’s why some systems are reservable rather than instantly deployable. Hoping for some feedback! I am very receptive to evolving this whole idea. ps: There’s also $20 free compute credit for new users, if you want to poke at it.

Since Railway getting pwned is getting all the attention right now, I thought now is a good time to showcase what we've been building. Stackdome is a self hosted platform as a service. The idea is to have simplicity of platforms like Railway and Render, but with the ability to run everything on infrastructure you control. With Stackdome, you can deploy an application from GitHub, connect multiple services visually, add a managed database, create preview environments, and roll back the entire application if a release breaks. Features: - First class support for multi-service applications, shown on a canvas in the UI (inspired by Railway). You can edit, wire up, and create resources from the canvas. - First class support for multiple clusters. Stackdome acts as the hub and places workloads across clusters (hub and spoke). - Self hostable, from a small VPS to a large k8s cluster. - Managed Postgres with WAL archiving, HA, backups, and PITR (CNPG underneath). - A release system for the whole stack. A release targets everything, and you can roll it back if something breaks. - Source to image, with an in cluster registry (Zot). - Disposable preview environments, which can also be multi-service. - Declarative apps via a Stackfile, deployed with the CLI. Basically, the idea is to package the tooling in the CNCF/cloud-native ecosystem into an opinionated platform, so that developers can get a without being an expert in Kubernetes or a dozen other projects from the CNCF landscape. AgentTrust OS is the runtime trust layer for AI agents. Upload a CSV or pick a Google Sheet, and Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client can filter, group and total the rows. I got into homelabbing a year ago and have been deploying OSS and making some of my own to address some pain points in my everyday life. One particular area I thought I could improve was keeping in touch with people. Well that first required having a centralized place to see all my contacts. I have some friends on my Google contacts, other relationships on LinkedIn and even some in Facebook. A secondary need is something that's been blowing up recently with people search. LLMs + Search are surprisingly good at aggregating relevant data and parsing through for relevant information. And finally a last need is to keep me disciplined and remind me to reach out to people when it's been a while. And thus I made Contrack! Aggregate your contacts, smart dedupe, and enrich with people search to get a local of your contacts with up-to-date info. Track your contacts as well to remind yourself to keep in touch :)
I have been self-hosting for 10 years, and "family hosting" for 2. The number of attacks my servers get has increased by 3x since May of this year. Now personally, I don't like hiding behind Cloudflare because I don't want them to be a SPOF, but it was becoming a bit too scary to just be open to the web. Because it is a family cloud, it can't hide behind a VPN, it has to support devices like TV sticks that can't connect properly over VPN. It has to support HTTPS. So I put together a Rust/Ratatui TUI+cron/CLI that manages my second line of defense: firewall and HTTP server. I run a reverse Nginx proxy in front of apps like Nextcloud, and a nftables firewall with SSH as my admin tunnel. It does several things: 1) It allows me to block entire segments, countries, datacenter IP ranges, TOR exit nodes etc... 2) It allows me to block specific bots: search bots, AI bots, security scanners 3) It does dynamic blocking too, looking at the logs to spot bad behavior and block it. I used to run fail2ban for SSH for example, but a centralized UI for both SSH and HTTP(S) is nicer IMHO. So if this is useful to anyone else, feel free. It's AGPL v3. In my experience, geoblocking is the biggest win, reducing the attacks by 30x. AI Disclosure: I use AI assisted development. I follow Linus Torvalds and Bob Martin model, with using AI as a tool and verifying the result.

Vexlyx is an open-source hosting control panel for people who want to run applications and traditional websites on infrastructure they control. Hi HN, I’m Joe. I’m a data engineer, and I built Datachef because I got tired of maintaining the disjointed data stack (Fivetran, Airbyte, Airflow, Snowflake, Redshift, S3, dbt, Looker, Tableau, a reverse-ETL tool, etc.) and being a middleman for business users that just wanted to self serve. Datachef is one managed platform where you can: - Connect your business systems (Salesforce, Marketo, Hubspot, etc.) and/or databases (Postgres, MySQL) in a few clicks. Your data lake is synced in minutes. - Explore your data via natural language or write SQL directly. - Model how data is combined, filtered and aggregated. Create a shared system of intelligence. - Share models across the org so every query, report and slide deck tells the same story. - Integrate data back into Salesforce, Marketo and HubSpot — lead scores, segments and events, in the systems your team already works in. We shipped a Claude connector ( https://www.datachef.com/blog/datachef-claude-connector ). From Claude you can run complex, multi-step/multi-dataset analysis, and create or update your models and sync settings. I’d love feedback, especially from anyone who has run the modern data stack and has opinions on what consolidating it should and shouldn’t give up.

We have built KeibiDrop because me and the people close to me were tired of cloud storages, and to copy data fully across our devices in order to use it. Now with KeibiDrop you can mount and stream folders between your computers (and web browser) access and edit data on-demand as if it was local. You can try it instantly in the browser https://web.keibidrop.com/ (you need two devices) or by building from source/ downloading from the github releases. (there are also recordings in the Readme on github). We also got a marketing website for it here: https://keibidrop.com The desktop app, engine and CLI are FOSS AGPL-v3 and in terms of architecture and stack the following holds: - It uses a full-duplex P2P IPv6 connection between peers with a fallback to a data forwarding relay. - We got a dual networking stack QUIC + TCP using protocol buffers (WebRTC to be added), and we use ML-KEM-1024 + X25519 for the handshake and either aes-gcm-256 or chacha20-poly1305 for the session, and we do a latency hiding re-key inspired by Signal's SPQR. - it relies on FUSE, macFUSE, and WinFsp as filesystem drivers and the whole gist of it is to "hide the latency" of remote filesystems and to just give the feeling of teleporting files. - we use golang for the engine, and rust + slint.dev for the GUI Our goal was to have a lightweight, cross platform filesystem that does not use many resources, has the RAM usage bounded and gives the feeling as if working on a local filesystem. Currently the filesystem respects POSIX semantics, (except for symlinks and hardlinks, I have them disabled), and we tested it on intercontinental links (between Romania and Singapore), on both relayed connections and direct connections. You can use git, pijul, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or any tools you would normally use on your local computer, or use our docker image on your NAS storage and instantly access the data you need while you are travelling.

Every item is tagged Safe, Review or Protected, so you know what rebuilds instantly and what doesn't. 100% offline — no network, no telemetry, no account. Free on the Mac App Store.
Let me begin by explaining what it is: SchemaWright is a platform for learning database table design in a gamified way, with a real Postgres database running on your browser via WASM. It was heavily inspired by Duolingo and LeetCode, because I love the way how those platforms teach their users. I built and launched this a couple months ago, weeks after my first SaaS failed (that one was called NoteRaven, and the idea was for it to be a Notion + Medium + Udemy all in one platform; but after looking at how saturated that market was, I decided to move on). The story on how I came up with it is basically that I was working normally on my day job, and noticed how many times we had changed some core tables, and usually discussed renaming them, changing columns, relationships etc. After that, I realized that I wanted to learn how to "get the schema right" from the beginning, so I began looking for websites that could teach that. It didnt take long to realize I couldn't find one that fitted my needs: it had to feel gamified and rigorous at the same time. When I say "rigorous" I mean that the content shouldnt be standard exercises we see in university (that we never really use at work) or loose definitions we feel like is too shallow. Therefore, I decided that I would be the one to build such platform. The way I structured the app is by separating it in 3 main pages: Learn, Exercises and Lectures. The first one is where you'll find Duolingo like lessons for database schema, it goes from the foundations (what is a table, what are rows and columns), to intermediate/advanced contents, such as concurrency and queues, scaling and architecture etc. It has 8 levels, but I currently only wrote up to level 3 (normalisation). Which is funny because my boss once tested me on this lol. The Exercises page is where I took inspiratoin from LeetCode, especially the page for an exercise structure: on the left side you have the problem description, your submissions and an editorial, and on the right side the code editor and the tests that will run on your code. Finally the last page is for people who are keen on reading papers and are more drawn to academic research. The lectures reference famous and important research papers that led us to our current understanding of databases, sql and concepts we learn today on this subject. It summarizes them and teaches you the concepts, while containing some interactive exercises too! Ok, so why do I think this may work as opposed to NoteRaven? One of the reasons is that I shared this with my co-workers (60+ people, most are devs too) and boss (who is CEO and CTO), and they really enjoyed using it. That same boss gave me positive feedback and suggestions, that I actually ended up implementing on the platform (yeah your suggestion could end up there too!). Another would be that I feel like platforms that train you on database design are scarce compared to ones that teach you queries, so the market wouldn't be so saturated. Let me know what you guys think! Please share if you think some exercises are unfair, meaning that they need better context for people to answer them, and also what you think of the lesson's pace, content and interactive exercises; the same goes for the lectures.
